"Georgian Bents" is a group of recumbent
riders in the Georgian Bay area of Ontario, Canada. The riders come from
an area encompassing Owen Sound to the west, Toronto to the south and Orillia
to the east. The club is set up to promote
recumbents and cycling in general. The club tries to get together for
rides on a monthly basis as well as travel to other events hosted by local clubs
in Ontario and the upper United States. We ride because we enjoy it and
find recumbents to be the most suitable and comfortable choices for human powered
vehicles, but we also welcome upright riders as well. While some are more
casual riders, there are also those of us who also enjoy the speed and racing
aspects of recumbents either in the form of pushing our own limits and personal
bests or in competition against other riders. Our plan is to encourage cycling
of all kinds and host as many rides and events as we have time for while trying
to interleave our schedule with those of other clubs. The club is a mix
of homebuilders and riders who have purchased commercial recumbents. News
will be listed here, with more detailed information about other club aspects,
listed on their own pages. As time moves on, membership, events and this
site's content will hopefully expand. News: | Feb
16, 2007 - Updates So, a bit of time passed
in the old "update department", but things have been moving along. Got
tentative dates plus past events added to the Events page including the recent
annual Brantford ice races. Toronto ice bike races are coming up shortly, and
that was a great time last year, plus the weather looks to be a little warmer
than last year too. Plans are afoot to see if we can arrange an ice race in Barrie
on Kempenfeld Bay, but nothing solid yet. Also added the mailing list link and
a host of others to the Links page.

2006 - Updates It's been a fairly busy
year for most of the bent riders and busy schedules for most, took precedence
over events, but that's life. We managed some local rides and a couple Windel
dates, but as a group, it's been fairly quiet. We have a few new bent riders
and they are listed on the Members page. And
yes . . . I managed to actually update the membership page, added some new times
to the Racing results, and completed some more
of the Events pages.
Webpage updates will continue and we are looking forward to one last Windel
event in October, possibly one or two more Wasaga rides, and thee seems to be
interest in some Santa Claus parades so those times and dates will be posted as
they become available. The small weather forecasts are for the local area
and Wasaga Beach and Brantford which are the two main sites for races. |
| Nov 12, 2005 - Wasaga track ready to use After
a couple dozen hours of work, the abandoned race track at Wasaga Beach is finally
fixed up enough to race on. Some additional work is required to de-weed
and clean up the top of the track in some sections, as well as repaint the lower
apron line and continue work on relocating some dirt piles, but the track is free
of glass, potholes filled and its rideable. Some times were recorded by
two riders and are listed on the Racing page. |
